Keeping Up With The Times: A Must For Customer Retention

While new leads and conversions must be a major part of your marketing efforts, you must also dedicate continual attention to customer retention strategies. Here are some fundamental techniques for maintaining customer interest in your business and for giving your client base good reasons to return to you again.

Update and maintain your website

Your website establishes a permanent presence for your company and serves as a place where your customers can find out about you at any time, day or night. Having a well-designed and up-to-date website is a basic tool for customer retention.

  • Assess your website from the perspective of a potential customer or a past customer who’s trying to find you again. Is your site easy to use, easy to find and appealing to both new and repeat customers?
  • Note any problems you see and take steps to correct them, either through your current IT team or by hiring outside professionals.
  • Work to build link networks between your site and other relevant sites.
  • Post new content frequently, such as blog entries or articles.

See what the competition’s doing

Don’t neglect your competition. Their online presence can tell you much about what’s going on in your industry and what you may be able to do differently to win and retain customers.

  • Explore your competitors’ websites and compare them with your own. Which ones are easier to use? More informative? More appealing?
  • Borrow workable ideas and incorporate them into your own site.

Use social media

Without a current social media presence, a business is missing out on major opportunities to connect with current and past customers. Worse, if you aren’t active in social media, your business may be seen as being out of touch and not willing to adapt to the times.

  • Establish Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts to promote your company and brand.
  • Keep your social media sources updated and make them easy for customers to find and interact with.
  • Post your commercials or other relevant videos on YouTube.

Are you using up-to-date marketing and customer retention techniques to keep your existing customers happy and ready to come back for more?
